Practitioners throughout Eurasia have made significant strides in battling an entrenched distrust in public health institutions, but the COVID-19 pandemic and accompanying “infodemic” have presented new challenges to their credibility and shaken faith even in trusted public health authorities. This vulnerability is exploited by disinformation actors and has been linked to negative health outcomes.

TCM's upcoming event co-chaired with the World Health Organization (WHO) will convene medical professionals, civil society leaders, and policy experts to explore best practices and collaborate on paths forward to strengthen public confidence in the health system and relevant institutions across the region.

Co-chairs:

- Tinatin Japaridze, TCM’s Director of Policy and Strategy.

- Tina D. Purnat, Team Lead for Infodemic Management in the Unit for High Impact Events Preparedness, Department of Global Infectious Hazard Preparedness at the WHO.

Panelists:

- Zurab Tchiaberashvili, former Minister of Labor, Health and Social Affairs and deputy chairperson of the parliamentary committee of healthcare and social affairs.

- Yevhen Fedchenko, co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of StopFake Ukraine and Director of the Mohyla School of Journalism.

- Assel Mussabekova, virologist and co-founder of the GYLYM FACES project.
